In 2009, my oldest son deployed as a US Marine to Helmand Province in Afghanistan.
He did dangerous work, flying as one of four crew members on Heavy Marine Helicopter 463,
across a land riddled with anti-aircraft guns.

I’m a worrier. To stay sane, I wrote this blog during his deployment.
